Fledgling kicks off 2023 with a wintery song about loss, longing and reflection. “Flowers On the Pavement” was written when singer, Sara Hartman, had just received the news that an old school friend had died suddenly and tragically. Sara was in the studio in Berlin with Alfie Jackson and Sven Ludwig at the time; they had no choice but to write this song.
Sara’s voice was recorded that very day and the emotion is raw and laid bare. Singing through some old stories of her friend “the hula hoop queen”, the chorus chants “do you remember when the lights went out in New York…?” - an eternal memory of when they were together in NYC when there was a power cut. The production by Sven Ludwig, builds with piano, programmed drums, stirring synths swelling into a full chorus with bass and strings to hammer home the emotions.
“I wonder where you are now…” Sara reaches out in the emotive mid 8. It’s a song with genuine mood and vibe. You feel it.
